Cake Boxes

History shows cakes were originally cooked in a wooden box and they are still popular today with the discerning baker. By using a wooden box there is a slower cooking time giving a better result and the boxes can be used over and over again. Grandpas boxes are individually hand crafted using New Zealand native Kahikatea (White Pine) milled from fallen logs. Kahikatea is known for its clean finish and neutral odour. It was used to ship butter and cheese in the early 1900’s to Europe. It is perfect to use with all food products.

Before the first use place in an oven for about 45 minutes at 140 Celsius. This will allow the timber to shrink a little.
As a natural product there will be shrinkage and maybe the odd crack will appear. Nothing to worry about your cake will still cook the same.
Simply line the box with a layer of baking paper and fill with the appropriate amount of mixture.
Don’t bake over 150 Celsius. Don’t wash the box with water. Any mixture adhering to the box can be brushed out after cooking.
